Ship model  French corvette LE SPHINX
The French corvette LE SPHINX became known for three occurrences: she was the first steam ship of the Marine Royale, whose machines worked satisfyingly; on 9 July 1830 she brought the news of the conquest of Algiers on 5 July to Toulon; and in 1833 she pulled the LUXOR from Alexandria to Cherbourg. The LUXOR was loaded with the obelisk  that was set up at the Place de la Concorde in Paris.

The SPHINX was launched in Rochefort on 3 August 1828. Built to plans of engineer Hubert, her length was 46.25 m , width board to board was 8.15 m and width including the paddle wheels was 14 m. The wheels were 5.94 m in diameter and had 16 paddles each. The ship could run at a maximum speed of 9 knots. The steam engine had been bought from Fawcett in Liverpool. On 6 July 1845, fifteen years after the conquest of Algeria, the SPHINX ran aground in fog off Cap Matifou and was lost.

In the Musée de la Marine in Paris there is a contemporary ship model of the LE SPHINX in 1: 40 scale.

The ship model was made in the 1960s. Length is 127 cm, width 35 cm and height 75 cm.

法国巡洋舰“LE SPHINX”号以三个方面著称：她是皇家海军的第一艘蒸汽船，机器工作令人满意；在1830年7月9日，她带着7月5日征服阿尔及尔的消息到达土伦；并在1833年，她拖着“LUXOR”号从亚历山大到瑟堡。“LUXOR”号装载的方尖碑是准备建立在巴黎协和广场。

“LE SPHINX”号于1828年8月3日在罗什福尔下水。按工程师休伯特的图纸建造，她长46.25米，舷到舷宽8.15米和包括桨轮毂则宽为14米。机轮直径5.94米，每个有16片划桨。该船可以运行的最高速度9节。蒸汽机是在利物浦的福塞特购买的。1845年7月6日，征服阿尔及利亚15年后，“LE SPHINX”号遇雾在Cap Matifou搁浅并遇难。

在巴黎的海军博物馆有一个现代的“LE SPHINX”号船舶模型，比例1/40。这个模型于1960年制作，长127厘米，宽35厘米，高75厘米。
